Your accomplishments in the gym are amazing but what I want to thank you for is your smile. My girls, only 6 & 8 (level 4, Tops and Tiny tumblers) are always watching you…….they see you work hard, fall hard and, most of all, see you do it all with a smile on your face. The outward attitude you display is a wonderful thing for our daughters to witness. Of course your skills amaze us all, but what really makes you special is the hugs you give to the younger girls who idolize you, the smile you have while training and the obvious love you have for the sport. You are a role model for who you are….not just what you can do !! Best of luck in the upcoming months. We will be there to cheer you on in Philly !!!

Sam, As a mom of 3 young Deveau’s gymnasts, I would like to reiterate what another mom expressed–my girls idolize you! You are a phenomenal gymnast with an incredible work ethic. Your perseverance and incredible gymnastics skills are amazing, but it is perhaps even more amazing that despite your fame, you still take time out to make the little girls feel special. My 7 year old daughter, Anna (TOPS, level 4), loves you and wants to be just like you. She has a framed picture of you and her together on her dresser, and your signed poster on her wall. I was amazed during Deveau’s picture day when you took time out of your practice for individual pictures with each member of the Deveau’s SHOW team. I know that you already knew Anna from TOPS, but you had never met the other team members, including Anna’s 2 sisters. You made the girls feel so special and important by taking time for them and asking them about their group! We wish you continued success on your road to Beijing. We are so proud to have a champion like you at our very own gym!

GOOD LUCK SAM! I am a proud dad of two Deveau’s kids. My daughter and I were at the airport when you returned from the world championships. You are hero! The prized picture on the wall of her room is one of her giving you a hug when you arrived at the airport. It is truly amazing what you can do in gymnastics. It is equally amazing how you inspire all those around you to accomplish more than they ever thought they could.
My son is 6 and thinks it is soooo cool that he sees the “TV girl” at the gym. Good luck Sam (and HAVE FUN!). We are all proud of you

I know Jillian (Jilly Bean, Level 4) looks up to you tremendously. Our family has been following your successes for several years now. We always are excited to see you compete on TV and are really proud to be associated in some small way with an world class athlete. Thank you for the example you set for the younger girls. You not only show them how to be gracious in success, you show them how to persevere through difficult times.
I have watched you at the gym many times. I have seen you nail it, fall, cry and then nail it again. What a gift you give the young ones! I cannot tell you how many times I have used you as an example with my daughter. “Does Sam fall sometimes? Isn’t she still really terrific? Does she quit?”
We will be watching and cheering for you. You will represent our country well. You are already a champion.

I’ve followed your path for several years and am so excited for you! My children have all see you around the gym, and to say they’re in awe is an understatement. As others have mentioned, you are more than just an outstanding athlete! You are a true embodiment of the Olympic spirit.

Sam, we have been anxiously watching you, waiting for the announcement, and PRAYING at the monastery. Yesterday all the sisters kept asking if I had heard yet!! And this morning, everyone read the sports page first (yes, even before morning prayer!). We are so excited for you and will be following the Olympics avidly. The last time I saw you on TV, you were so confident and graceful and, I think, grace-filled. You are beautiful to watch as you sail through your difficult routines. When we arrived in Indy, we went to Deveaus to watch the team practice and we were amazed(maybe star stuck) to see you training just like all the girls.
